MY PHILOSOPHY
The Art of the Open Hand
“The harder we try to catch hold of the moment... the more elusive it becomes... like trying to clutch water in one's hands, the harder one grips, the faster it slips through one's fingers.”
— Alan Watts
We live with a deep-seated feeling that something is missing. While that survival instinct helped our species evolve, in a world where we’ve conquered most physical threats, it now severely limits us.
My life was defined by seeking, searching, and grasping. A desperate attempt to acquire enough external stuff, validation, success to fill an internal void. As the stakes grew, it turned out I needed more and more and I had to tighten my grip in order to hold onto all that I had already gathered. The result was exhaustion and breakdown.
An open hand represents a shift in orientation. It is a posture of allowance, presence, and trust. It requires releasing the illusion of control and the relentless need to force outcomes.
When you approach life with an open hand, you do not lose your power, drive, or edge. Instead, you gain access to a limitless supply of energy that can be channeled effortlessly when you need it. By connecting with this inner wellspring, you move from exhaustion to enlivened presence.
